Satus epilepticus (SE) is rarely reported in studies specifically dealing with poststroke seizures, although in adults it is mainly related to cerebrovascular diseases (CVD). Among 1300 patients with acute or chronic CVD admitted to our Department, SE was observed as first epileptic symptom in 17 cases and included convulsive (58,8%) as well as nonconvulsive (41,2%) clinical manifestations. The EEG pattern was always focal and PLEDs were the prominent typical features (47%). Convulsive SE was associated to cortical, often acute lesions, while nonconvulsive SE was mainly related to chronic cortical or diffuse subcortical pathology.
