Objectives. University-industry-government relationships are being paid increasing attention for the socio-economic development in regional areas. The basic idea of our work is that Technology Transfer Offices (TTO), as innovation intermediaries, can play an important role to develop and to accelerate the combination of knowledge and to realize linkages among different entities. TTOs can provide not only the match between seekers and solvers (i.e. match provider) or can support the whole process from the match to the commercialization of innovative ideas (i.e. match supporters). Our purpose is to investigate on the contribution of TTOs to the match among researchers, industry and government and on their support to foster technology transfer and territorial development. Methodology. Our study is structured in two phases: the first focuses on a literature review of TTOs as innovation intermediaries; the second focuses on a survey of some Italian TTOs. Findings. Our findings refer to the role played by TTO in the network of technology transfer and territorial development. Research limits. The limitations can be identified in an oversimplification of a complex scenario that involves TTOs and several actors. Practical implication. The outcomes can be useful to pinpoint the different mind-sets of emerging research on TTOs Originality of the study. The analysis can contribute to the integration of TTO studies and widen the horizon on this subject.

Abstract
