To the Editor, Recently, we demonstrated the involvement of interleukin (IL)-23 in peripheral arterial disease (PAD).1 IL-23 is mainly involved in the generation of a new subset of effector T cells (Th17) that could be characterised by the ability to produce a unique set of inflammatory cytokines, such as IL-17A, IL-17F, IL-6 and tumour necrosis factor-a, that play an important role in vascular inflammation.2,
