Enthalpies of protonation of polyacrylates and polymethacrylates with different molecular weights in aqueous NaCl solutions, 0less than or equal toIless than or equal to2 mol-L(-1) were determined by titration calorimetry at 25degreesC. DeltaH values are dependent on both the neutralization degree, alpha, and the molecular weight of polyacids. TDeltaS of protonation was obtained using pK values already reported and the present DeltaH results. Empirical equations for the dependence on I, alpha, and molecular weight are reported for both DeltaH and TDeltaS.
