Bodies and Tools: A Cognitive Perspective. In this paper some studies about the natural predisposition of human beings to biologically incorporate devices and tools are shown. Tools are responsible for the extension of the body schema and the peripersonal space. On the strength of these experimental data, the proposal consists in a reinterpretation of the Marshall McLuhan’s idea of media extension, in line with the framework of the enaction theory. According to this branch of research consciousness turns out by simultaneous activity of the brain in a body acting in the environment. The hypothesis is that devices are able to constitute, as well as body and brain, some processes of cognitive activity, being them part of the environment.
