The article traces the history of La bicicletta (Canti di Castelvecchio) and provides the edition of a new manuscript version of the Giovanni Pascoli’s poem. Through the unpublished correspondence between the poet and his brother Raffaele, it turns out that the poem was composed for the competition organized in 1900 by some magazines in order to find the hymn of the Touring Club Ciclistico Italiano. The author investigates the relations between different manuscript versions and analyzes their variations.
