Alice Hallgarten Franchetti (New York, 1874 – Leysin, 1911) played a leading role in the education of the early twentieth italian century. At the beginning of the century, supported by her husband, Leopoldo Franchetti (Livorno, 1847 – Roma, 1917), Baron and Senator of the Kingdom, she wanted to upset the reality of cultural exclusion of the poorest class, instituting the two rural schools of Montesca and Rovigliano, dedicated at free education for farmers’s children in Umbria.
