This work studies demand and supply of maritime port services in order to analyse the relationship between investments and ‘road-sea’ modal balance in Sicily. Using a panel data approach, it will be tested the presence of any correlation between the relevant variables and the volume of goods traded in Sicily. The main insight of our framework shows a strong imbalance in terms of goods loaded and unloaded in the ports of the Sicilian Region. This result sheds some light on our research question and highlights that an overall reorganization of the regional logistics is desiderable.
