This paper seeks to investigate the representation of migrants in TV news discourse with particular reference to the issue of “voice”. It analyses the use of translation and subtitles in TV news. It addresses two main questions: what voice is given to migrants in TV news? How does the “translation” of voice fit in this context? To tackle these questions, the paper uses a Multimodal Critical Discourse approach to illustrate a case study of BBC TV news.
