This paper aims to utilise an interdisciplinary analysis to examine the reasons for the long persistence of the Islamic State in the Middle East and its leading position as Salafi jihadist group. Three aspects of this phenomenon, which can be considered as main strengths, will be analysed in this work: the present role of ISIS in the political geography of the region, its criminal economics and the way ISIS creates and spreads its own propaganda aimed at the recruitment of Western fighters through the English language.
