The luminescence of [Eu ⊂ bpy·bpy·bpy]3+ cryptate is reported for the solid (down to 4.2 K) and for molecules in porous glass. Energy transfer from the cryptand to Eu3+ occurs with high efficiency. The emission spectra are used to evaluate the molecular conformation of the cryptate. The Eu3+ ion appears to be off-centre. © 1988.
