The elemental representative does not solve the question of the meaning of the representation and merely analyzes its functioning and quantifying its tools. It is essentially incapable of understanding its crisis factors. The existential representative brings us back to classical philosophy and tends to understand the assumptions and the intellectual bond between representative and represented. Voegelin’s The new science of politics attempted to search in classical philosophy an alternative to modern political science which had failed to recognize and therefore find remedies against the tyranny of modern totalitarianism. Voegelin had already been anticipated criticism to his masters, Kelsen and Weber, and to the new positivism, in the pages of his History of political ideas, which were so far unpublished. It is through the deepening of this work that it is possible to properly understand the Voegelin’s inspirational source, as well as his analysis of English constitutionalism by John Fortescue on the political order of American democracy
