A 10-year-old female greyhound presented with a suspected bulge on the left side of the abdomen. Abdominal ultrasound examination showed a large splenic mass that was surgically removed because of the suspected diagnosis of malignancy. Histological examination of the lesion revealed the presence of haematopoietic tissue mixed with well-differentiated adipose tissue consistent with a splenic myelolipoma. A 24-month follow-up after splenectomy highlighted the good health of the greyhound. Therefore, the authors confirm that the approach could be elective treatment in this tumour. This case report, concerning a splenic myelolipoma in an asymptomatic old female greyhound, adds to the cases already mentioned in literature, and highlights the benignity of this lesion as well as the good prognosis of the patient when approached correctly.

Abstract
A 10-year-old female greyhound presented with a suspected bulge on the left side of the abdomen. Abdominal ultrasound examination showed a large splenic mass that was surgically removed because of the suspected diagnosis of malignancy. Histological examination of the lesion revealed the presence of haematopoietic tissue mixed with well-differentiated adipose tissue consistent with a splenic myelolipoma. A 24-month follow-up after splenectomy highlighted the good health of the greyhound. Therefore, the authors confirm that the approach could be elective treatment in this tumour. This case report, concerning a splenic myelolipoma in an asymptomatic old female greyhound, adds to the cases already mentioned in literature, and highlights the benignity of this lesion as well as the good prognosis of the patient when approached correctly.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
