The new species Parviturbo laevisculptus (Gastropoda: Turbinidae) is described, based on 17 empty shells sampled in the Strait of Messina area. A further specimen of this new species is recognizable in the Parviturbo sp., reported by Rubio et al. (2015) from the same area, but undescribed because based on a single empty shell without protoconch. The habitat of the new species, preliminarily attributed to the coralligenous/ biodetritic communities, might be further limited, due to the peculiar features of the Messina Strait, its type locality.

Abstract
The new species Parviturbo laevisculptus (Gastropoda: Turbinidae) is described, based on 17 empty shells sampled in the Strait of Messina area. A further specimen of this new species is recognizable in the Parviturbo sp., reported by Rubio et al. (2015) from the same area, but undescribed because based on a single empty shell without protoconch. The habitat of the new species, preliminarily attributed to the coralligenous/ biodetritic communities, might be further limited, due to the peculiar features of the Messina Strait, its type locality.File in questo prodotto:
