The present work aims to retrace the path of freedom from the polis to the postmodern society. The objective is to show how only the advent of a cognitive democracy can open new spaces of dialectical comparison, able to contrast the present process of disciplinary specialization which, keeping philosophy separate from the sciences, hinders the emergence of a thought of the complex, able to face the challenges of globalization.
