L’Autore espone alcune osservazioni su università, ricerca e insegnamento prendendo le mosse dagli spunti presenti nel romanzo “Stoner” di John Williams. Il libro racconta le vicende di un ricercatore universitario statunitense vissuto nella prima metà del Novecento ed è ancora di straordinaria attualità. Nel presente articolo, sono analizzati, in particolare, i diversi modelli di università evocati nel romanzo, per poi approfondire il dibattito americano sul ruolo dell’università sviluppatosi dalla fine degli anni ’60 del secolo scorso fino ad oggi. Infine, si espongono alcune considerazioni sull’attualità dei principi della Costituzione italiana in materia di libertà di ricerca e d’insegnamento. The Author makes some observations on university, research and teaching starting from the ideas in the novel “Stoner” by John Williams. The book is about the story of a US university researcher lived in the first half of the twentieth century and is still quite relevant today. In this article, in particular, the different models of universities mentioned in the novel are analyzed, then deepening the American debate on the role of the university developed from the late 60s of the last century until today. Finally, some considerations on the topicality of the principles of the Italian Constitution concerning freedom of research and teaching are set out.
