The Mediterranean basin was at the center of French colonization from 1880 to 1914 and, to maintain the colonial order, France set up a system of political, administrative, military and linguistic domination of the conquered territories. This was the era of political and linguistic imperialisms carried out through a network of French Catholic and Jewish schools. In this article we will seek to highlight the French linguistic policy carried out thanks to the French schools and Pierre Foncin whose political action is characterized by linguistic imperialism and by the creation of the Alliance Française in the colonies and abroad during the Third Republic.

Abstract
The Mediterranean basin was at the center of French colonization from 1880 to 1914 and, to maintain the colonial order, France set up a system of political, administrative, military and linguistic domination of the conquered territories. This was the era of political and linguistic imperialisms carried out through a network of French Catholic and Jewish schools. In this article we will seek to highlight the French linguistic policy carried out thanks to the French schools and Pierre Foncin whose political action is characterized by linguistic imperialism and by the creation of the Alliance Française in the colonies and abroad during the Third Republic.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
