The contribution of toponymy to the reconstruction of the ancient road network in Sicily · The analysis of the toponyms can prove to be very useful for the diachronic study of the landscape and the settlement dynamics connected to it. As part of a research project concerning the topographical reconstruction of the Roman road Catina-Agrigentum, the author has analyzed a series of place names that could be related in some way to the road system, with a particular focus on the praedial toponyms and the central place of Sofiana with its surroundings.
