The author, taking his cue from a recent article by Elio Dovere, in which legal historians are urged to confront themselves with the study of the formae of theological discourse, examines the use of exegetical techniques derived from the genus scribendi of the so-called ‘quaestiones et responsiones’ in Origen’s commentaries on the Gospels and in Ulpian’s libri ad edictum, finding clear analogies.
