In this essay the author aims to describe the evolution of the theory of judgment developed by Carlo Antoni throughout his studies on Hegel and Croce. Besides highlighting its limitations, this work will underline how these defects invalidated Antoni’s theory of natural law itself, which the philosopher aspired to restore. The essay is enriched by excerpts of Antoni and Battaglia’s unreleased correspondence, a testimony of Antoni’s anguish regarding transcendence of values.
