If modern political thought has far and wide reflected on liberty and equality as political categories, it has not done likewise with fraternity - which fuses the two. The root of this phenomenon is not only owing to weakness, but also to the fear of the charismatic force which lies in the bond in Otherness. At the same time, the conflict between religion and modernity has further deteriorated the terrain of brotherhood already fraught with obstacles. And yet, one cannot but think of brotherhood as the regulating principle of each: lived in fraternity, freedom does not lie in the hands of the strongest; and equality does not degenerate into oppressive egalitarianism. Consequently, fraternity could be the key to the realization of the project modernity failed to achieve, that is, an active democratic system based on the dynamics of inclusion and hospitality. Derrida’s ethical-political thought interestingly reinterprets the concept of brotherhood and friendship permeating Western thought, in order to discover another tradition, one that is perhaps capable of initiating a form of democracy yet to come.

Abstract
Derrida’s ethical-political thought interestingly reinterprets the concept of brotherhood and friendship permeating Western thought, in order to discover another tradition, one that is perhaps capable of initiating a form of democracy yet to come.Pubblicazioni consigliate
