"In tutto c'è stata bellezza". Il giallo e la luce nelle memorie fototestuali di Manuel Vilas.

In his latest book In tutto c’è stata bellezza (2019), Manuel Vilas creates an autobiography closely linked to his parents’ experience, thus proposing a walk down memory lane that unfolds, in a non-linear way, along the thread of personal memories and the history of Spain in the last decades. This contribution focuses, in particular, on the specific photo-textual method adopted by the writer, distinguishing between photographs inserted in the text and others only described with an ekphrastic procedure. The black and white feature of the photos dialogues in an original way with the prevailing yellow chromatic isotopy present in the text, characterized by dysphoric and sometimes funereal inflections in opposition to the semantic field of light that is full of vitality.
