The aim of this work is to analyze the concept of professional identity perceived through the comparison between the expectations of those who are about to enter the profession (150 students enrolled in the first year of the course) and the reflections of professionals (25 social workers experts) with over 15 years of experience in the field. From the analysis of the interviews, the awareness emerges that professional identity is the result of a growth path linked to the subjects they meet and to the role played within the service, through continuous training/ reworking of theories-practices. theories that link knowing how to do and knowing how to be. Professional identity is a continuous process of interpretation and personalization.
