Abstract

On October 12, 1949 Leonardo Sciascia started his career as a primary school teacher. He felt, right away, a strong sense of unease that he’ll make clearer in 1956 with Le Parrocchie di Regalpetra. A work that, although set in a fictional place, describes wonderfully the discomfort of teachers, the context in which the pupils are forced to live and the inadequacy of school curricula. But his unease was, as evidenced by his class registers, undoubtedly a spur to describe with a extraordinary literary sensibility the pedagogical climate in the half of the 20th century Sicily.
