In chapter 28 of the first Miscellanea, dedicated to the meaning and history of the term panikos phobos (‘panic fear’), Poliziano cites a passage from the eighth oration of Nicetas Choniates. The essay addresses the problem of identifying the manuscript used by Poliziano: Choniates’ orations are transmitted, in fact, by a unique codex, Marc. Gr. XI, 22, from the 13th century, which probably remained in the East until it was acquired in the Cretan metochion of Santa Caterina dei Sinaiti by Bernardo Nani in the 18th century; in the inventory of Cardinal Grimani’s library, there is a manuscript with the same content as the Marcian, identified by the editors of the inventory as a codex from the library of Pico della Mirandola, which could be a copy now lost of Marc. Gr. XI, 22.

Abstract
Gr. XI, 22.Pubblicazioni consigliate
