This paper aims to outline, through published works and archival materials, a brief part of the history of international political thought of Samuel P. Huntington: the Reagan years (the 1980s). More specifically, this essay is going to focus on the huntingtonian comments to the foreign policy of Ronald Reagan related to some Third World conflict regions. In connection with that, it will discuss Huntington’s idea of national interest, his relationship with neoconservatism and his views on the Strategic Defense Initiative and the Reagan Doctrine.
