The essay investigates the usage of the forms derived from pluperfect in Ukrainian and in Russian. This research has been conducted based on a parallel corpus of literary texts by U. Eco, the General Regionally Annotated Corpus of Ukrainian (GRAK), and the Russian National Corpus (NKRJa). The subject of the investigation are the convergences in the use of verbal forms in both languages, with reference to “unrealized intention” and “annulled result”, but also the divergences, regarding the value generally attributed to pluperfect, namely the expression of “the anteriority to a reference point in the past” and “the achievement of a result in the past”, observed in the Ukrainian language.
