Abstract

The lights and shadows of the bodies immortalized in Caravaggio’s works – especially in the Adoration of the Shepherds – allow us to reflect on the wonder of natality. In dialogue with Caravaggio’s canvases and Hannah Arendt’s philosophy, the paper proposes to analyse the revolutionary value that the invisibility of bodies of new births takes on when they enter the visibility of political space, bringing change into it. In order to show that the world is truly human if we know how to open up windows beyond the visible, because without such continuous renewal, no future could be planned.
