This article focuses on the vicissitudes of a communist-leading group that administered a little city in Eastern Sicily between 1994 and 2002. Drawing on lengthy ethnographic research and reconstructing the biographical events and the political trajectories of this group members, this article explores how what I call ‘the spirit of communism’ gradually died out. This slow disappearance of the spirit of communism in the local context coincided with the inability of the great majority of this group’s representatives to access the national political level. In many ways, the vicissitudes, and the end both of this local experience and of those who played a protagonist role shed light on what happened to communist feeling at the national level.

Abstract
This article focuses on the vicissitudes of a communist-leading group that administered a little city in Eastern Sicily between 1994 and 2002. Drawing on lengthy ethnographic research and reconstructing the biographical events and the political trajectories of this group members, this article explores how what I call ‘the spirit of communism’ gradually died out. This slow disappearance of the spirit of communism in the local context coincided with the inability of the great majority of this group’s representatives to access the national political level. In many ways, the vicissitudes, and the end both of this local experience and of those who played a protagonist role shed light on what happened to communist feeling at the national level.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
