The paper discusses the status of the Russian language in Ukraine as a result of two educational reforms. The first reform took place in the Soviet era (in 1959), which marked the Russification of the school curriculum; while the second one took place in the independence period (in 2017 and 2020), when a complete shift to the national language started. The changing status of the Russian language after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine is analysed.

Abstract

The paper discusses the status of the Russian language in Ukraine as a result of two educational reforms.
