Human development and sustainable economic growth. The article analyses the different positions of economists and social scientists on the relationship between social factors and economic growth. It starts from the typically orthodox position according to which economic development generates stronger social ties and then analyses the alternative position that sees social cohesion as a precondition for development. The factors that make the relationship between economic growth and people’s wellbeing biunivocal are then examined, finally highlighting the importance of human relations for a sustainable development of the economy that takes into account not only wealth and economic wellbeing but also the factors that determine people’s happiness.

Abstract
Human development and sustainable economic growth. The article analyses the different positions of economists and social scientists on the relationship between social factors and economic growth. It starts from the typically orthodox position according to which economic development generates stronger social ties and then analyses the alternative position that sees social cohesion as a precondition for development. The factors that make the relationship between economic growth and people’s wellbeing biunivocal are then examined, finally highlighting the importance of human relations for a sustainable development of the economy that takes into account not only wealth and economic wellbeing but also the factors that determine people’s happiness.Pubblicazioni consigliate
