The article describes the author’s experience in the artistic residency “Vivre sur le seuil. Rencontres Congolaises”, which was held in Cosenza in May 2018. The “threshold” metaphor, evocated in the event’s title, permeates the works of the par- ticipants, who explored the tragedy and the contradictions of borders. The city, traversed through the performance of the Congolese artists and their bodies, did not fully accept the challenge of being a locus of cultural encounter. Yet the art- works remain in the city, witnessing the difficulty, but also the richness, of the dialogue between different cultures.
