In dialogue with Jacques Derrida’s Politics of Friendship (1994), this paper sketches out the challenges of today’s democracy. Beyond any oppositional and exclusionary paradigm – of which the ontology of Carl Schmitt’s Enemy is the highest expression – Derrida’s philosophy intends to think of another politics. Constantly faithful to the “Law of unconditional hospitality” and in the name of a new cosmopolitanism, the democracy to come must choose whether to open or close its borders to face the unpredictable event of the Foreigner: will it be an Enemy or a Guest? It is up to us to responsibly answer.

Abstract
It is up to us to responsibly answer.File in questo prodotto:
