The effects of a new cholesterol lowering drug (A 585) on red blood cell plasma membranes and ultrastructural liver appearance were investigated in normal and genetically hypercholesterolemic rats. Subacute (15 days) treatment with A 585 induced a decrease in membrane cholesterol, with an increased fluidization, and good restoration of the membrane pump activity that is modified in hypercholesterolemic animals. Electron microscopy studies of the liver of treated rats showed no pathologic modification of the mitochondria and no significant variations in the appearance of peroxysomes.

Abstract
The effects of a new cholesterol lowering drug (A 585) on red blood cell plasma membranes and ultrastructural liver appearance were investigated in normal and genetically hypercholesterolemic rats. Subacute (15 days) treatment with A 585 induced a decrease in membrane cholesterol, with an increased fluidization, and good restoration of the membrane pump activity that is modified in hypercholesterolemic animals. Electron microscopy studies of the liver of treated rats showed no pathologic modification of the mitochondria and no significant variations in the appearance of peroxysomes.File in questo prodotto:
