The excavation of the northern wall of Sofiana : Unpublished contexts from the early and middle imperial age in south-central Sicily · The site of Sofiana is located approximately 6 km SW of the Villa del Casale in Piazza Armerina, positioned midway along the hypothetical route of the Roman road Catina-Agrigentum. The site was initially excavated in the 1950s and 1960s under the direction of D. Adamesteanu. Research activities resumed in 1988, led by G. F. La Torre, who uncovered a long stretch of wall marking the northern boundary of the settlement. A re-evaluation of the excavation – taking into account the most recent findings from the Philosophiana Project – allows for new hypotheses regarding the site’s topography. The excavation also yielded a significant quantity of pottery dating to the early and middle Imperial period, which help contextualize Sofiana within the broader framework of trade flows from Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean.

Abstract
The excavation also yielded a significant quantity of pottery dating to the early and middle Imperial period, which help contextualize Sofiana within the broader framework of trade flows from Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean.Pubblicazioni consigliate
