Carlo Antoni commemorated Benedetto Croce between 10 and 12 December 1953 at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa. The meetings addressed "some problems left open by Croce", specifically the question of the category of vitality, the distinct logic of the history of philosophy, and the enigmatic connection between the empirical individual and the absolute Spirit. This essay therefore publishes the sole surviving manuscript, which examines the bond between subject and predicate within historical judgment. The introductory note, which situates the text within Antoni’s intellectual biography and also attempts to fill documentary gaps, compares the document from December 1953 with an article by Antoni that appeared in "Il Mondo" on 5 January 1954, in which he re-proposed excerpts taken from the manuscript presented here.
