The essay analyzes the transformation of the school -family relationship, which has shifted from an alliance grounded in educational authority to an increasingly conflictual relationship. It highlights the erosion of teachers’ social prestige and the rise of forms of parental advocacy aimed at protecting children. From a systemic perspective, the conflict emerges from interdependent fears among adults: parents’ anxiety about failure and teachers’ fear of seeing their professionalism delegitimized. Overprotection and the instrumental use of protective measures risk depriving students of the experience of limits, which is necessary for growth. Finally, the essay proposes a post-conflict “third way,” centered on student development as a shared point of reference.
