This paper, which stems from an examination of the Neapolitan and Milanese settings narrated by Anna Maria Ortese, aims to compare the moral and political ideas of the Roman writer with those of Simone Weil. The two women are, indeed, linked by a similar sensitivity towards the defeated, which is theoretically expressed by a philosophy of alterity that appears to verge on ecology. The ultimate aim of this paper is to isolate the speculative core of Ortese’s poetics.

Abstract

This paper, which stems from an examination of the Neapolitan and Milanese settings narrated by Anna Maria Ortese, aims to compare the moral and political ideas of the Roman writer with those of Simone Weil. The two women are, indeed, linked by a similar sensitivity towards the defeated, which is theoretically expressed by a philosophy of alterity that appears to verge on ecology. The ultimate aim of this paper is to isolate the speculative core of Ortese’s poetics.
