In Poesia in forma di rosa, Pier Paolo Pasolini explores the new contemporary condition of the poet in the historyless era of Neo-Capitalism, in which the language of poetry «is on the verge of becoming incomprehensible» and even «the idea of man is dying». Thus comes into play the need for a new allegorical art in which the death of the poet becomes the fundamental vanishing point that allows for a provocative representation of the sense of a foreclosed and denied future. Rather than focusing on the specific model of allegory that Pasolini adopts and transforms, this article examines the reasons and the readings that underpin that particular exercise in allegorical poetry «in defence of the human» as an expressive choice situated within a specific social and political context.
