This article explores the figure of Saint Eustochia Calafato (1434–1485), founder of the Monastery of Montevergine in Messina, and the significance of the so-called “Mes sina Codex” for both Franciscan spirituality and canon law. The first part examines the veneration of Saint Eustochia’s incorrupt body and the canonical discipline governing relics, from the 1917 and 1983 Codes of Canon Law to the 2017 Instruction Relics in the Church. The second part analyzes the contents of the Messina Codex, which preserves fundamental texts of the Clarian tradition, including the Rule, the Privilege of Poverty, the Testament, and the Blessing of Saint Clare, shedding new light on their authenticity and historical transmission.
