The paper describes a method whereby a asymmetric multistory frame structure computes, for each plane frame of the complex structure, a particular direction of this in-directional input of which the horizontal floor displacements are maximized; this direction is defined as the ″Design Input Direction″ . A sample structure is analyzed and the results obtained for displacements are compared by alternative approaches. The method is subject to bi-directional seismic response spectra inputs.
