Benign myoclonic epilepsy in infancy is characterized by the occurrence of brief myoclonic attacks in normally developed infants aged between 4 months and 3 years. Ictal EEG shows generalized spike-wave or polyspikewave discharges. Although the myoclonic attacks are usually controlled by valproate treatment, the use of other antiepileptic agents with fewer side effects is reasonable in treating such a benign condition. Leve - tiracetam is a relatively new antiepileptic drug, effective as antimyoclonic agent, and shows very few side effects. We describe a child affected by benign myoclonic epilepsy successfully treated with levetiracetam.

Abstract
Benign myoclonic epilepsy in infancy is characterized by the occurrence of brief myoclonic attacks in normally developed infants aged between 4 months and 3 years. Ictal EEG shows generalized spike-wave or polyspikewave discharges. Although the myoclonic attacks are usually controlled by valproate treatment, the use of other antiepileptic agents with fewer side effects is reasonable in treating such a benign condition. Leve - tiracetam is a relatively new antiepileptic drug, effective as antimyoclonic agent, and shows very few side effects. We describe a child affected by benign myoclonic epilepsy successfully treated with levetiracetam.Pubblicazioni consigliate
