The DDTs, PCBs and some heavy metals contamination was evaluated in samples of swordfish and tuna caught in the Mediterranean sea from 1999 to present. These two large pelagic fish species have a long biological cycle and being at the top of the food chain, can be regarded as biomarkers. The analysis of the data, show a quite satisfactory situation: although there is a small background contamination it can not be considered as alarming for the consumer. Certainly the Mediterranean fish is an indispensable food.

Abstract
