The biographical story of the writer Irène Némirovsky is marked by two important historical events: the Russian Revolution and the Holocaust. Belonging to the wealthy Jewish bourgeoisie, she escaped with her family in 1918 from St. Petersburg and then moved to Paris, achieving great success as a writer. Despite her fame and conversion to Catholicism, in 1942 she was deported and died in Auschwitz. She lived between different cities, forced to a cosmopolitanism that would make her a stateless person; marked by a perfect bilingualism, she felt extraneous to her mother tongue, Russian, and at ease in her adopted language, French; a Jewish root that will make her portray vices and defects of her people, but that she rejects as an unacceptable part of herself; acute criticism of a greedy but collapsing civilization, she was able to portray primordial passions and defend a femininity no longer relegated to the role of mother and wife. Contradictions that emerge in his writing and with which she defends his marginality and estrangement from the world around her.
