This article puts into practice some techniques developed by Julia and Manuel Sevilla Muñoz which allow us to locate the in various languages of more than one thousand five hundred Spanish paremies: actantial, thematic, synonymic and hypernymic. Proverbs possess some features which make the work of the translator particularly difficult. The principal difficulty consists in giving the translated text not only the exact meaning of the original passage, but above all, in giving it a proverbial tone, something which is not always easy in the target language. In order not to make the paremie expressionless and unfamiliar to the spirit of the target language, instead of translating literally or creating a new version, the translator must try to preserve the paremiological character of the source paremie by searching in the target language for the precise statement capable of expressing a key idea equal to that expressed in the source text. In this study we have applied the already mentioned in the search for paremiological correspondences between Sicilian, a dialect variation, and Spanish. To do so, we used the corpus of popular paremies, the Refranero multilingüe, an instrument used for on-line consultation, which, through cataloguing Spanish paremies according to semantic labels, allows us to find the paremie of the target language, in our case Spanish, starting from the actant or similar actant, the hypernym, or the idea or key word of the proverb in the source language, in this case Sicilian.
