The work is framed in the paremiographic studies and presents the modifications or changes that have suffered the paremiographic variants of the Sicilian city of Messina, collected in a corpus from a fieldwork carried out during the years 2018 and 2019 in the same port city, with respect to their source paremias, in addition to their possible causes. The use of sources, lexicographic works that have a long tradition in Sicily (Pasqualino, 1785-1795; Rapisarda, 1842; Traìna, 1868; Pitrè, 1880), allows us to confirm the vitality of the paremias of the corpus and check the modifications with respect to the most classical form. The material collected in this study has contributed to enriching the online corpus of popular Spanish proverbs "Refranero multilingüe" (2009), which gathers proverbs in various dialects of Italy that have correspondences with the Spanish popular proverbs present in it, and studies on the minimum paremiological in Spanish and Sicilian in comparison.
